High Scardus Trail is one of the most spectacular long-distance hiking routes in the Balkans, crossing the mountains of North Macedonia, Kosovo, and Albania. Known for its untouched nature, dramatic alpine scenery, and authentic mountain culture, it connects remote villages, high passes, and pristine national park landscapes. As a result, it has become one of the most popular adventure trails in the region for hiking, biking, and ski touring.
The High Scardus Trail in Macedonia and Kosovo attracts adventurers because it offers a unique mix of wild nature and cultural experiences. In addition, it features panoramic ridgelines, glacial lakes, and iconic peaks such as Mount Korab. The full trail is approximately 270–300 km long, depending on the chosen variant and side routes. It is typically completed in 10 to 15 days of continuous trekking, while shorter sections can be done as 3–7 day hiking, e-bike, or ski touring adventures. Therefore, it is ideal for both multi-day expeditions and shorter custom mountain trips.
In winter, the trail area transforms into a prime ski touring destination with untouched snow and remote backcountry terrain. Meanwhile, summer and autumn are perfect for hiking and e-bike adventures across scenic alpine landscapes.
